Ella is a small yet beautiful town in the district of Badulla in the province of Uva, Sri Lanka, which is administered by the Urban Council. Ella is roughly 200 kilometers (120 mi) east of Colombo and is at an elevation of 1,041 meters (3,415 ft) above sea level.

Enjoy Endless Tea Field Views – Lipton’s Seat: Lipton’s Seat in Haputale is a perfect morning or afternoon journey from Ella. Take a brief train trip to Haputale in the morning. Once you hit the station, get a tuk-tuk that drives you to the top where, back in 1890, Lipton established the first seeds of what became Sri Lanka’s largest export product, Lipton Tea. 

Climb the Little Adam’s Peak: The Peak of Little Adam is the nephew of Adam’s Peak. From the peak, admire the look over the valley, relax and get in touch with other travelers. It takes about 45 minutes from Ella Town to the foot of the peak, and about 15 minutes to get to the summit. The first 45 minutes are also very fun as you pass the nearby village and the tea plantations. Without a doubt, this is one of the best things to do when you visit Ella in Sri Lanka.  You will get a quieter spot as you step down and up (5 minutes) to the next slope. There’s no actual path, but you can get there with a little climbing. On the way back, pause at 98 Acres Resort for a cup of coffee or tea with a sight.

The 2nd Highest Waterfall in Sri Lanka – Swim at Diyaluma Falls: You’ll actually require the entire day to visit the Diyaluma Falls, or at least if you’re trying to visit it from the top. Around an hour’s drive from Ella is the foot of the second – highest cascade in Sri Lanka.  After discovering the foot, travel another 30 minutes to the top. Hike for about 45 minutes and hit a waterfall with tons of natural pools on various stages.

A Fresh Shower at the Ravana Falls: Ready to run away from the heat of the summer? The Ravana Fall is a simple 10-minute drive from the town. It’s right next to the highway, so you can take a dip easily. Far better than the Diyaluma Dropping. 

Ravana Falls is becoming a very popular location, with locals and foreigners visiting to admire this slice of nature and cooling down in the river. This must be one of the best things to try while you visit Ella in Sri Lanka.

Ella Spice Garden – cooking classes: Know about the ingredients and make some tasty Sri-Lankan food with different flavors. However, be sure you book well in advance because the Ella Spice Garden class seems to be packed every day.

Ella Rock Hikes: If you’re up to a bigger mission, walk to the peak of Ella Rock. Little Adam’s peak is a laugh in contrast to this one. It takes 2 hours to hike from the bottom to the peak.
