Beach Holdays In Sri Lanka

Despite Sri Lanka’s small size, the island nation of Sri Lanka experiences a varied climate, Due to two monsoon seasons that affect different parts of the country at different times of the year. These seasons are not perfectly reliable as the monsoon rains change their order each year, but there are months which the climate is perfect for a beach holiday in Sri Lanka. Its obvious that heavy rains aren’t meant for sunbathing. We have suggested some popular areas that you could visit according to the seasonal changes or your date of arrival to Sri Lanka.

Arugam Bay, Nilaveli, Passikudah & Kalkudah beaches

Between April and September is the perfect time to visit Sri Lanka’s East Coast because there is no or less rain for these areas at that time period. The rainy season for these areas starts from early November and go long until around February. Anyway, there would be little rain time to time in between March and October, but it won’t affect your beach holiday in Sri Lanka that much.

Unawatuna, Tangalle and Mirissa

The story changes completely for south coast between the months of December and May peak holiday season in Sri lanka  and it would be good to have a beach holiday at that time because the next monsoon season affects south coast from June to Octomber. In August the rainfall declines when compared to July and September, so it might be possible to have a beach vacation at this time too. The shoulder season is considered as the month of November to the South coast.

Bentota, Hikkaduwa and Negombo

West coast too gets a similar monsoon rain pattern as the south coast. July to November is the time period that has heavy rain in these areas in the west coast. From December to April it’s the best time to visit these areas. Its sunny, clear sky and no or very little rainfall. May and June the rainfall tends to increase and in August again there is less rainfall compared to other months.
